Listowel, Ont- The Cyclones hit the road Saturday night for a key matchup against the Strathroy Rockets, looking to gain valuable ground in the playoff race.
Strathroy opened the scoring early, striking twice in the first period before Listowel found their footing. The Cyclones responded when Dylan Szymanowski buried Listowel’s first goal of the night, assisted by Colton Henderson, injecting momentum back into the lineup. The Rockets answered once more before the opening frame came to a close, sending the teams to intermission with Strathroy holding a 3–1 advantage.
The second period was a tightly contested, scoreless stretch, highlighted by strong defensive play on both sides and steady goaltending. Listowel continued to press, generating chances while keeping the Rockets in check.
In the third, Strathroy added an insurance marker, but the Cyclones refused to go quietly. Ethan Fischer tallied Listowel’s second goal of the game late in the period, cutting into the deficit and keeping hope alive. Despite a determined push in the final minutes, the Cyclones ultimately fell by a 4–2 score.Between the pipes, Ethan Kowatsch delivered a strong performance, turning aside 37 shots and giving Listowel every opportunity to stay within reach.
The Cyclones now turn their focus back home, returning Friday night to the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena. With just six home games remaining in the regular season, every shift matters as Listowel continues its push for a playoff berth.
