Listowel, Ont- The Listowel Cyclones faced a demanding weekend schedule, travelling to Chatham on Sunday before returning home Monday afternoon for a special Family Day matchup at the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena.
CYCLONES RALLY FALLS JUST SHORT IN CHATHAM
Sunday afternoon saw the Cyclones visit the Chatham Maroons in a hard-fought road contest. After two periods, Listowel trailed 3–0, with the Maroons controlling much of the early momentum. Chatham added another goal early in the third to extend the lead to 4–0.
The Cyclones refused to quit.
Cameron Beisel opened the scoring for Listowel, finishing a strong sequence assisted by Clark deBoer and Trent Houghton. The goal energized the bench and sparked a late push.
On the power play, Ryan Cranny struck next, converting with assists from Dylan Szymanowski and Keaton Middleton to bring the Cyclones within two.
Jack O’Donnell added further drama, scoring the team’s third goal of the evening off a setup from Jordan Visneskie and Lyndon Cabral. Despite the relentless pressure, the comeback effort fell just short as Listowel dropped a narrow 4–3 decision.
Goaltender Jack Bree delivered an outstanding performance between the pipes, turning aside 50 shots and giving his team every opportunity to claw back into the game.
FAMILY DAY CROWD TREATED TO “BATTLE OF PERTH COUNTY”
The Cyclones returned home Monday for a marquee Family Day showdown against the rival Stratford Warriors. The annual “Battle of Perth County” featured the much-anticipated Teddy Bear Toss, creating a festive and electric atmosphere inside the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena.
Stratford struck twice in the opening period and added another in the second to take control of the contest.
At 14:09 of the second period, Jordan Visneskie ignited the building, scoring the Teddy Bear Toss goal to send stuffed animals raining onto the ice. The goal, assisted by Jack O’Donnell (his 10th assist of the season) and Trent Houghton, shifted momentum and energized both the crowd and the Cyclones bench.
The Warriors responded before the intermission to maintain their advantage.
In the third period, Dylan Szymanowski cut into the deficit with a goal assisted by Colton Henderson and Trent Harris. Despite continued pressure, Listowel ultimately fell 4–2 in a spirited divisional battle. Ethan Kowatsch was in net making 33 saves.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Cyclones will regroup and prepare for their next matchup this Friday when they host the Komoka Kings at the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:30 PM.
Cyclones Nation is encouraged to pack the Kerr as the team looks to bounce back and build momentum heading into the stretch run.
