Cyclones Open 2025-2026 Season Tonight in Battle of 86 Showdown

LISTOWEL, ON — Hockey is back in Listowel as the Cyclones hit the ice tonight for their home opener of the 2025-2026 GOJHL season. Puck drop is set for 7:30 PM at the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena, where the Cyclones will face off against their long-time rivals, the Elmira Sugar Kings, in what promises to be another intense chapter in the storied Battle of Highway 86.

With a mix of returning talent and fresh faces in the lineup, excitement is high for what this season could bring. There’s a renewed energy in the dressing room and in the stands, and fans can expect high-paced, hard-hitting hockey right out of the gate.

Behind the bench, there are some new voices this season. Assistant coaches Brenden Clayton and Nolan Hislop join the Cyclones’ staff, bringing new perspectives and energy to support veteran head coach Jesse Cole, who continues to lead the team with passion and experience.

Adding to the significance of this season, the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) has officially been named a development league of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). This means more eyes will be on Listowel and other teams across the league, as scouts and organizations look for the next wave of elite talent.

Tonight’s matchup against the Sugar Kings will be the first of many fierce battles this season, and it’s one fans won’t want to miss. The rivalry runs deep, and with both teams eager to start the season strong, the atmosphere promises to be electric.

Let’s pack the rink and show what Cyclone pride is all about. Come out to the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena tonight and be a part of the action. If you can’t make it in person, you can stream the game live on FloHockey or tune in to 920 CKNX for live radio coverage.
