Elora native brings size, right-shot versatility and previous GOHL experience to Listowel’s blue line
LISTOWEL, ONT. — The Listowel Cyclones are proud to announce the signing of defenceman Cody Billings for the 2026–2027 Greater Ontario Hockey League season.
A native of Elora, Ontario, Billings joins the Cyclones following a productive season with the Kitchener Jr. Rangers U18 AAA program. The 17-year-old right-shot defenceman arrives in Listowel with several years of high-level minor hockey experience and previous exposure to the GOHL.
Standing six-foot-two and weighing 170 pounds, Billings adds valuable size and length to the Cyclones’ defensive group. His right-handed shot provides further balance to the blue line as he prepares to make the full-time transition into junior hockey.
Billings appeared in 29 regular-season games with the Kitchener Jr. Rangers during the 2025–2026 season, recording two goals and three assists for five points. He also accumulated 43 penalty minutes, demonstrating the competitive edge and physical engagement he brings to his position.
He added three playoff appearances with Kitchener before receiving another opportunity at the junior level with the Stratford Warriors. Billings appeared in one GOHL contest for Stratford during the season, gaining valuable experience against older and more physically developed competition.
It marked the second consecutive year in which Billings earned an opportunity with the Warriors. He made his GOHL debut as an affiliated player during the 2024–2025 campaign, giving him two games of junior experience before officially joining the Cyclones.
Although those appearances represent a limited sample, they provided Billings with an early understanding of the pace, strength and decision-making required at the GOHL level. That familiarity should assist his transition as he competes for a regular position in Listowel’s lineup.
Before joining the Kitchener Jr. Rangers, Billings spent the 2024–2025 season with the Waterloo Wolves U16 AAA program.
He registered one goal and two assists through 25 ALLIANCE regular-season games while recording 20 penalty minutes. His offensive production increased significantly during the postseason, where he became an important contributor from the blue line.
Billings recorded one goal and four assists for five points in only six playoff games. His four postseason assists demonstrated an ability to move the puck effectively and contribute to Waterloo’s offensive attack during meaningful games.
Across the regular season and playoffs, Billings finished his U16 campaign with two goals and six assists for eight points through 31 appearances. His performance during Waterloo’s playoff run offered an encouraging indication of the offensive upside he can provide from the back end.
Billings also earned one appearance with the Waterloo Wolves U18 AAA team that season, continuing to gain experience against older competition while developing within one of Ontario’s established AAA programs.
His earlier development took place with the Credit River Capitals. During the 2023–2024 season, Billings played primarily at the U15 AAA level while also earning three appearances with the Capitals U16 AAA team.
He recorded his first U16 point with an assist during those three games, completing the early stages of a progression that would eventually take him to Waterloo, Kitchener and the junior ranks.
Billings began his AAA career with the Credit River Capitals U14 program during the 2022–2023 season. His development through Credit River, Waterloo and Kitchener has exposed him to several competitive hockey environments and prepared him for the next stage of his career in Listowel.
Throughout his progression, Billings has shown an ability to handle increasingly demanding levels of competition. His size and right-handed shot provide a strong physical foundation, while his five-point U16 playoff performance demonstrated that he can also contribute through puck movement and offensive support.
The addition of Billings gives the Cyclones another promising young defenceman as the organization continues constructing its roster for the upcoming season. His AAA experience, physical presence, playoff production and previous GOHL appearances make him an intriguing addition to Listowel’s defensive group.
With a full junior season ahead of him, Billings will have the opportunity to continue developing his defensive game, become stronger in battles and expand upon the offensive instincts he displayed during his time with Waterloo.
