Listowel native returns following an energetic and physical rookie campaign with his hometown club
LISTOWEL, ONT. — The Listowel Cyclones are proud to announce that forward Tate Berfelz will return to the organization for the 2026–2027 GOHL season.
A native of Listowel, Ontario, Berfelz proudly represents his hometown every time he steps onto the ice at the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena. The right-shot forward appeared in 43 games during his first season with the Cyclones, recording five goals and five assists for 10 points while collecting 48 penalty minutes.
Berfelz brought energy, physicality and a relentless work ethic to the Listowel lineup throughout the 2025–2026 campaign. His willingness to compete in difficult areas and contribute at both ends of the ice made him a dependable member of the Cyclones’ forward group.
One of Berfelz’s notable goals came during Listowel’s thrilling home game against the Chatham Maroons in January. He found the back of the net during the second period as the Cyclones battled through overtime and ultimately secured a 5–4 victory in the shootout.
Berfelz also played an important role in Listowel’s third-period comeback against the Strathroy Rockets. After the Cyclones entered the final frame trailing, he scored to help ignite a three-goal rally that carried Listowel to a 4–2 victory at the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena.
In addition to his five goals, Berfelz contributed assists during several important moments throughout the season. He helped set up Thomas Paleczny during Listowel’s victory over the Waterloo Siskins and contributed to Trenton Harris’ goal during the Cyclones’ 5–2 road win over the LaSalle Vipers in the final week of the campaign.
His balanced total of five goals and five assists reflected his ability to contribute as both a scorer and playmaker. Berfelz also provided the Cyclones with a physical presence, using his size and competitive approach to create pressure and support his teammates.
The 2025–2026 season represented Berfelz’s first full campaign at the GOHL level. Before joining his hometown Cyclones, he gained valuable junior experience with the Wingham Ironmen of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.
During the 2024–2025 season, Berfelz appeared in 37 regular-season games for Wingham, recording five goals and 16 assists for 21 points while collecting 24 penalty minutes.
He continued to contribute during the postseason, producing one goal and two assists for three points through five playoff appearances.
Berfelz’s 21-point season with the Ironmen demonstrated his ability to create opportunities for his teammates while adjusting to the pace and physical demands of junior hockey. That experience helped prepare him to make the move into the Cyclones lineup the following season.
Before entering junior hockey, Berfelz developed through the Waterloo Wolves AAA program.
During the 2023–2024 season, he recorded five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 29 regular-season games with the Waterloo Wolves U16 AAA team. He also collected 32 penalty minutes.
Berfelz elevated his production during the playoffs, scoring three goals and adding one assist for four points through nine postseason contests. He also earned an opportunity to appear in one game with Waterloo’s U18 AAA team.
His development with the Wolves began at the U15 AAA level during the 2022–2023 season before he progressed into a productive U16 campaign and ultimately into the junior ranks.
Berfelz’s return carries additional significance for the Cyclones organization. As a Listowel-born player, he understands the importance of representing a community with a proud junior-hockey tradition and a passionate connection to its hometown club.
After completing his rookie season and gaining experience throughout a full GOHL schedule, Berfelz will return with an opportunity to continue expanding his role. His energy, physicality, team-first approach and familiarity with the organization will once again make him an important part of the Cyclones lineup.
