HOME OPENER PREVIEW: CYCLONES WELCOME NAVY VETS FOR HISTORIC SEASON OPENER FRIDAY

Listowel, ONT. —The Listowel Cyclones begin their 2026–27 GOHL campaign on Friday, September 11, welcoming the Woodstock Navy Vets to Steve Kerr Memorial Arena for a historic first league meeting between the two franchises. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

With Woodstock entering the GOHL for the first time in franchise history, Friday’s home opener brings a new opponent to Listowel and a fresh chapter to the Cyclones’ schedule.

A Strong Preseason Showing

The Cyclones head into opening night following two convincing preseason victories over the Ayr Centennials.

Listowel opened with a 6–3 road win in Ayr before returning home to deliver a commanding 7–1 victory in the second meeting. Across the two contests, the Cyclones outscored the Centennials 13–4, providing an encouraging foundation as the focus shifts to regular-season competition.

Preseason results offer only an early glimpse of what lies ahead, but the Cyclones gave their fans plenty to look forward to with two strong performances against a familiar opponent.

Cyclones Represented at OHL Training Camps

The preseason also saw eight Cyclones participate in Ontario Hockey League training camps, gaining valuable experience alongside players competing for opportunities at the major junior level.

The following players represented Listowel at OHL camps:

  • Ryan Cranny — Windsor Spitfires
  • Thomas Paleczny — Barrie Colts
  • Clark DeBoer — Sarnia Sting
  • Shayne Keefe — Sarnia Sting
  • Roman Shtefan — Barrie Colts
  • Lyndon Cabral — Erie Otters
  • Ewan Muzzell — Owen Sound Attack
  • Will Kueneman — London Knights

Their participation is a proud moment for the Cyclones organization and reflects the opportunities available to players as they continue their development in Listowel.

For the Cyclones, it is an opportunity to build on their performances against Ayr and establish a strong start in front of their home crowd.
