Listowel Cyclones Announce Brenden Clayton as New Assistant Coach

The Listowel Cyclones are excited to announce that Brenden Clayton will join the team’s coaching staff as an Assistant Coach for the upcoming 2025–2026 season.

Brenden is no stranger to Cyclones hockey. From 2016 to 2020, he proudly wore the Cyclones jersey, establishing himself as a respected leader on and off the ice. He served as Assistant Captain during the 2018-2019 season and as Captain in 2019-2020, demonstrating the character and commitment that defined his playing career.

During his time in Listowel, Brenden was part of two of the most successful seasons in franchise history, helping the Cyclones capture the Cherrey Cup in 2016–2017 and the Sutherland Cup in 2017–2018. He credits much of his leadership development and hockey knowledge to learning under now Cyclones Head Coach Jesse Cole.

After graduating from junior hockey, Brenden transitioned behind the bench as an Assistant Coach with the Hanover Barons, where he spent the past three seasons. His impact was immediate and lasting: the Barons made three consecutive appearances in the Pollock Division Finals, winning twice and capped off his tenure with a historic Schmalz Cup Championship, the franchise’s second title in history and first in 31 years.

Brenden now returns to Listowel with a wealth of experience, a championship pedigree, and a deep connection to Cyclones culture.

“I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to give back to a team that has given me so much,” said Clayton. “The Cyclones played a huge role in shaping who I am as a player, a coach, and a person. I’m honoured to be part of the organization again and to help develop the next generation of Cyclones.”

The organization is thrilled to welcome Brenden home and looks forward to the leadership and passion he will bring to this new role.

Welcome back to #CycsNation, Brenden!
