Listowel, Ontario- In front of an electric home crowd at the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena, the Listowel Cyclones battled their way to a thrilling 4–3 victory in overtime against the Waterloo Siskins on Friday night. With the game still tied after a tense 3-on-3 overtime, the Cyclones sealed the win in a dramatic shootout, earning two hard-fought points in front of their loyal fans.
Waterloo entered the night ranked 6th in the Western Division, while Listowel sat 10th, but rankings meant little once the puck dropped at 7:30 p.m. as both teams put on a fast-paced and physical display.
First Period Action
The Siskins struck first to open the scoring, but Listowel quickly responded on the power play. Lyndon Cabral found the back of the net with a perfectly placed shot, assisted by returning forward Colton Henderson and Hudson Wiles. Waterloo would regain the lead late in the period to make it 2–1 after 20 minutes of play.
Second Period Push
The Cyclones’ penalty kill turned defense into offense as Dylan Szymanowski netted a short-handed goal just 5:13 into the second period, showing grit and determination as he powered the puck past the Waterloo netminder unassisted. However, the Siskins answered back once more, regaining a 3–2 lead heading into the final frame.
Third Period Equalizer
Listowel came out strong in the third, applying sustained pressure and eventually breaking through. Trent Houghton tied the game at 3–3 at 6:11, finishing off a crisp setup from Trent Harris and Tate Berfelz. Neither side would budge for the remainder of regulation, sending the contest to overtime.
Overtime and Shootout Drama
Despite several quality scoring chances during the 3-on-3 overtime, neither team could find the winner. In the shootout, goaltender Ethan Kowatsch stood tall, turning away all Waterloo attempts with poise and precision. Then, in a storybook moment, Colton Henderson, in his first game back with the Cyclones, buried the decisive shootout goal to secure the win.
Kowatsch finished the night with 26 saves, earning well-deserved recognition as one of the game’s top performers.
