Kincardine native returns to Listowel after recording 20 points and appearing in all 50 games during his first complete GOHL season
LISTOWEL, ONT. — The Listowel Cyclones are proud to announce that forward Trent Houghton will return to the organization for the 2026–2027 GOHL season.
A native of Kincardine, Ontario, Houghton established himself as a durable, hard-working member of the Cyclones lineup during his first complete season with the club. The left-shot forward appeared in all 50 regular-season games during the 2025–2026 campaign, recording six goals and 14 assists for 20 points while collecting 78 penalty minutes.
Houghton’s relentless work ethic, physical style and willingness to compete in difficult areas made him an important part of Listowel’s forward group. He contributed at both ends of the ice and provided the Cyclones with a dependable presence throughout the schedule.
One of Houghton’s most important goals came during an early-season matchup against the Waterloo Siskins. With Listowel trailing in the third period, he scored the tying goal at 6:11 to send the game to overtime. The Cyclones ultimately secured a 4–3 shootout victory at the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena.
Houghton also made an immediate impact during Listowel’s 4–2 road victory over the Sarnia Legionnaires in December. He opened the scoring only 40 seconds into the game, setting the tone as the Cyclones earned an important two points before the holiday break.
The following night, Houghton found the back of the net again as Listowel defeated the LaSalle Vipers and completed a successful four-point conclusion to the first half of the season.
In addition to his six goals, Houghton consistently helped create offence for his teammates. He contributed assists on goals by Jordan Visneskie, Hudson Wiles, Cameron Beisel and Tate Berfelz throughout the campaign.
Houghton recorded his 10th assist of the season during Listowel’s third-period comeback victory over the Strathroy Rockets, setting up Berfelz as the Cyclones scored three times in the final frame to secure a 4–2 win.
He also assisted on Timothy Kraayenbrink’s first goal as a Cyclone and contributed to several power-play scoring sequences during the season.
Houghton’s 78 penalty minutes reflected the competitive edge and physical element he brought to the lineup. His ability to combine that hard-nosed approach with 20 points made him a valuable two-way contributor during his first full GOHL campaign.
The 2025–2026 season represented Houghton’s second year of experience with the Cyclones. He appeared in 10 games for Listowel during the 2024–2025 campaign, recording one goal and two assists for three points.
Houghton spent the majority of that season with his hometown Kincardine Bulldogs of the Provincial Junior Hockey League. He produced eight goals and 19 assists for 27 points in 27 regular-season appearances.
He elevated his performance considerably during the postseason, registering five goals and seven assists for 12 points through nine playoff games. That productive playoff run further demonstrated his ability to contribute during demanding and meaningful situations.
Houghton also played the entire 2023–2024 season with Kincardine, recording 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points in 42 regular-season games. He added two goals through 12 playoff contests.
Across his two PJHL regular seasons with the Bulldogs, Houghton accumulated 18 goals and 36 assists for 54 points in 69 games. His time in Kincardine provided valuable junior experience and helped prepare him for a full-time role with the Cyclones.
Before entering junior hockey, Houghton developed through the Grey-Bruce Highlanders AAA program. During the 2022–2023 season, he recorded seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in 38 U16 AAA games while collecting 58 penalty minutes.
He contributed two goals and one assist through five U16 playoff games before scoring twice in two postseason appearances at the U18 level.
Houghton’s progression from Grey-Bruce to Kincardine and ultimately into a full-time position with Listowel reflects the steady development of a forward who has consistently combined offensive contribution with a physical, competitive approach.
After appearing in every game last season, Houghton will return with valuable experience and a strong understanding of the club’s identity and expectations. His durability, work ethic and ability to contribute at both ends of the ice will once again make him an important piece of the Cyclones lineup.
