LISTOWEL, ONT- The Listowel Cyclones will officially raise the curtain on the 2026–27 season when they welcome the Woodstock Navy Vets to the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena on Friday, September 11, 2026. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Opening night is always one of the most anticipated dates on the hockey calendar. It represents a fresh beginning, a new opportunity and the return of Cyclones hockey to one of the most passionate junior hockey communities in Ontario.
This year’s home opener will also carry added significance.
For the first time since Woodstock joined the Greater Ontario Hockey League, the Cyclones and Navy Vets will meet in regular-season competition. The historic matchup will introduce a new opponent to the Cyclones’ schedule and begin an exciting new chapter between two proud hockey organizations.
The Navy Vets arrive in the GOHL with a long-standing tradition of their own, but on September 11, they will step onto the ice at the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena for their first league meeting with Listowel. The Cyclones will be determined to provide a memorable welcome, and begin the new season with a strong performance in front of their home supporters.
For the Cyclones, the evening will mark the culmination of a busy offseason and training camp. A new roster will come together under the familiar colours of Red, White and Black, ready to represent both the organization and the Listowel community.
Home ice has long played an important role in the Cyclones’ identity. The atmosphere inside the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena is created by generations of supporters, volunteers, sponsors, billet families and young fans who continue to make Cyclones hockey a special part of the community.
When the team takes the ice on opening night, it will do so with the entire community behind them.
The September 11 matchup will offer supporters their first opportunity to see the 2026–27 Cyclones in regular-season action. It will also provide an early test against a Woodstock team eager to establish itself in its new league.
Every opening night brings excitement and anticipation, but this one promises something especially memorable: the beginning of a new season, the first meeting between two organizations as GOHL opponents and another opportunity for Listowel to demonstrate why the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena is one of junior hockey’s most spirited environments.
