Mildmay product returns to Listowel after appearing in all 50 games during his first full junior campaign
LISTOWEL, ONT. — The Listowel Cyclones are proud to announce that defenceman Ethan Fischer will return to the organization for the 2026–2027 Greater Ontario Hockey League season.
A native of Mildmay, Ontario, Fischer established himself as a dependable member of the Cyclones blue line during his first full season of junior hockey. The right-shot defenceman appeared in all 50 regular-season games during the 2025–2026 campaign, recording five goals and 10 assists for 15 points while collecting 36 penalty minutes.
Fischer’s ability to remain in the lineup throughout the entire season reflected his consistency and growing importance within Listowel’s defensive group. He provided the Cyclones with a steady presence at even strength while also demonstrating an ability to contribute offensively and support the club’s special-teams units.
Several of Fischer’s goals came during important moments for the Cyclones. He found the back of the net on the power play against the Caledon Bombers and added another power-play marker during a closely contested home game against the Chatham Maroons.
Fischer also scored during Listowel’s late-season road matchup against the Strathroy Rockets, providing the Cyclones with their second goal of the night during the third period.
Beyond his five goals, Fischer regularly helped create opportunities for his teammates. His assists included contributions on goals by Clark deBoer, Ryan Cranny and Trenton Harris throughout the season.
Fischer also helped complete the scoring during Listowel’s 5–2 victory over the LaSalle Vipers in the final week of the season, earning an assist on Dylan Szymanowski’s third-period goal. That road victory provided a strong conclusion to Fischer’s first full GOHL campaign.
His 15 points represented another step forward in his development as a two-way defenceman. Fischer demonstrated an ability to move the puck effectively, support the offensive attack and contribute from the back end without losing sight of his defensive responsibilities.
The 2025–2026 campaign marked Fischer’s first complete season with the Cyclones, but it was not his first experience with the organization. He made three appearances for Listowel as an affiliate during the 2024–2025 season, gaining an early introduction to junior hockey before earning a full-time position the following year.
Fischer spent the majority of that season with the Grey-Bruce Highlanders U18 AAA program. He recorded eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points in 33 regular-season appearances, demonstrating significant offensive growth from the blue line.
He continued to produce during the postseason, contributing one goal and four assists for five points through six playoff contests.
Fischer also represented Sacred Heart Catholic School during the 2024–2025 season, recording one goal and three assists in six appearances.
Before joining Grey-Bruce, Fischer developed with the Huron-Perth Lakers program. During the 2023–2024 season, he appeared in 28 games for the Lakers’ U16 AAA team, producing one goal and four assists while collecting 28 penalty minutes.
His offensive impact increased during the playoffs, when he recorded six assists in nine games. That postseason performance offered an early indication of his ability to move the puck and help generate offence from the back end.
Fischer’s progression from Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce to a full-time position with the Cyclones reflects his continued development as a junior defenceman. After appearing in every regular-season game and gaining experience in a variety of situations, he will return to Listowel with a stronger understanding of the league and the demands of a complete GOHL schedule.
His return provides the Cyclones with valuable continuity on the blue line. Fischer’s reliability, two-way ability and developing offensive game will once again make him an important part of Listowel’s defensive group.
